MEP Says "No Truth" in Rumour EU to ban the Use of Mrs. & Miss

North East Labour MEP Stephen Hughes has said there is no truth in the

rumour that the EU will ban all language that is not gender neutral.

Speaking from Brussels, Mr. Hughes has said, "the guidance issued by the

Secretary General of the European Parliament has been meant simply as a

guide to help MEPs and staff be more sensitive to the cultural

differences of others-- an important issue when you consider that there

are representatives from 27 different nationalities working together

here."

"There is no intention to require anyone to introduce these changes into

their own language.

"I always try to be inclusive with my language and will, not because I'm

required to, but because I want to, take some of these suggestions on

board."
